Our groundwater team have experience ranging from rapid turnaround desktop assessments for planning applications, through to complex Tier 3 modelling and testing of remediation options for groundwater and leachate processes around illegal landfills, adjacent to internationally designated sites of conservation protection.
We carry these out for a range of project types:
What is Groundwater?
Groundwater is an important natural resource that requires robust environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
Hydrogeological Risk Assessments
Hydrogeological Risk Assessments are required for land development activities that pose a risk to the ground water environment. Our team can offer Hydrogeological Risk Assessments (HRA’s) for a range of projects including residential and commercial developments, cemetery assessments, landfill operations / waste facilities, operational quarry developments, and quarry restoration projects.
We have the capability to supplement hydrogeological investigations, or contaminated land risk assessments, with detailed ground water modelling studies. Our specialised team can undertake ground water flow modelling and contaminant fate & transport modelling using MODFLOW, MT3D, Consim, Landsim, and range of other specialised modelling software and tools.
Groundwater Flow Models
Groundwater flow models are important decision-making tools with respect to water resource management, planning, and protection. Ground water models can be used to simulate current conditions and predict the effects of given land-based activities. i.e abstractions, dewatering, contamination events, subsurface construction. They can be used by regulators, developers, water companies, and private operators for a range of purposes including abstraction licence applications, hydrogeological risk assessments, water resources and catchment management studies.
Underground water reserves can be exploited as a private water supply and can significantly reduce costs for both small and large water consumers. It can also be utilised as a source of geothermal energy by installing ground source heating and cooling systems. Our team of Hydrogeologists can undertake groundwater abstraction feasibility assessments and provide ground water development and protection services. We work closely with water well drillers across the UK and Ireland and can provide competitive tendering services and management / supervision of water well drilling, installation and development.
